HKUST Launches Hong Kong’s First Sustainable and Green Finance Program
|
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) today announced the first BSc in Sustainable and Green Finance (SGFN) Program in Hong Kong. The new program is designed to equip students with the essential knowledge and skills to fill the talent gap for green and sustainable finance experts and support Hong Kong to develop into a leading green finance center.

Challenge Unlimited – T&M-DDP Survival Camp 2021
|
At the beginning of every academic year, Dual Degree Program in Technology & Management (T&M-DDP) holds a 3-day 2-night leadership training camp, also known as the Survival Camp, for its new students admitted from JUPAS, direct entry and major selection to improve their leadership skills by completing various tasks at the wilderness. This year, Year 1 - 3 students made great accomplishment in the three respective survival camps held on 10 – 12 September, 24 – 26 September, and 30 September – 2 October 2021 at Hebe Haven, Sai Kung.

A Tale of Two Skills
|
Kelly Chu has had an interest in the sciences from an early age, but by no means was this her only passion. Inspired by the insight and knowledge passed on by family members, Kelly learned the value of combining soft skills and business acumen with hard, scientific knowledge and the opportunities such a combination would create. With these multifaceted interests, the Dual Degree Program in Technology & Management (T&M-DDP) was a natural choice.

EVMT Local Orientation Study Trip 2021
|
In order to foster closer bonding between the incoming freshmen from Environmental Management and Technology (EVMT), a 3-day local orientation trip was organized on 25 – 27 August 2021 for both Year 1 and Year 2 freshman students respectively. Through visiting different organizations and sites, students were led to study various environmental and sustainability topics. 16 Year 1 students were taken on a field trip to High Island while 17 Year 2 students were brought to Tai O. They also visited The Mills, Black Point Power Station, Fung Yuen Butterfly Reserve and the Hong Kong International Airport to learn how organizations tackle the fast-changing business and their environmental policy, and how technology helps promote sustainability.

Finding Strength in Sustainability
|
An avid scuba diver with a passion for marine life, Samantha Yuen—a 2021 graduate of the Environmental Management and Technology (EVMT) program at HKUST—has a heightened awareness of the impact of human activity, and the pollution we create, on marine ecosystems and the world at large. Equipped with a strong desire to enact change, Samantha was determined to explore her passion for sustainability which requires not only an individual citizen to act, but also the collaboration of several other important stakeholders, including regulatory bodies and corporations. This led her to the EVMT degree, a program designed to foster the strengths of future sustainability leaders.

IPO Student Team-Building Program at Ocean Park
|
To improve understanding, bonding and interactions between IPO students, an 'ultimate survival' team building programme was held at the Ocean Park on 14 October 2021. 39 students were divided into four different teams to complete three challenges. Many students found the teambuilding event a memorable experience to be held at the longest-running theme park in Hong Kong and was able to meet many new friends outside of class.

TEMG4950H “Special Project: Future Transport Planning for Hong Kong”
|
The final presentation of TEMG4950H “Special Project: Future Transport Planning for Hong Kong” was successfully held on 27 November 2021. Through 13-week coaching by Prof. Betty LIN, the course instructor and Associate Director of Dual Degree Program in Technology & Management (T&M-DDP), and class meetings with subject experts from HKSAR Transport Department and IBM, our students have envisioned the future of mobility to tackle traffic problems in the city.

Division of Environment and Sustainability Faculty Received The Common Core Teaching Excellence Award 2020
|
The Common Core Teaching Excellence Award 2020 was presented to the team of instructors of the common core course SUST 1000 Introduction to Sustainability including Prof. Arthur LAU, Prof. Laurence DELINA, Prof. Zhongming LU, Prof. Xiaoming SHI, Prof. Benjamin STEUER, and Dr Meike SAUERWEIN from the Division of Environment and Sustainability, Interdisciplinary Programs Office. The Award Presentation Ceremony was held on 9 August 2021 to celebrate their achievements.

T&M Executive Forum Series: Evolution of Mini-Human Heart: from Concept to Business, by Prof. Ronald LI
|
Dual Degree Program in Technology and Management (T&M-DDP) invited Prof. Ronald LI, CEO and Co-founder of Medera Biopharmaceutical as the guest speaker for Technology & Management (T&M) Executive Forum on 7 Oct, 2021 to talk about a very new topic – organ regeneration. The T&M Executive Forum Series organize talks focusing on the experiences of successful executives and first-hand accounts of the crucial role of technology and management in the marketplace.

HKUST Collaborates with HKSAR Government on Solving Regional Ozone Pollution in Greater Bay Area
|
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) is partnering with the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government in a 3-year groundbreaking cross-border study to monitor the air quality on land, at sea and in the air, which will give us a more in-depth understanding of the formation and transportation of ozone in Hong Kong and across the Greater Bay Area (GBA).

Prof. Zhe WANG has been named as Excellent Young Scientist by NSFC
|
Prof. Zhe WANG, Assistant Professor of Division of Environment and Sustainability, has been named as Excellent Young Scientist (EYS) by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC). Prof. WANG was awarded with his project “Atmospheric Heterogeneous Chemistry and Secondary Pollution”. The research will evaluate the heterogeneous interactions between urban pollutants and oceanic air, and quantify their impacts on the formation of secondary pollutions in the coastal Hong Kong and Greater Bay Area region.

PRAISE-HK-EXP : A World-First Innovative App to Help You Analyse and Manage your personal Air Pollution Exposure Health Risks
|
HKUST Institute for the Environment (HKUST-IENV) today released the “PRAISE-HK-EXP App” – a new mobile app that help users analyze their personal air pollution exposure budget, from outdoor, indoor, to different micro-environments including various modes of transportation, so that they can better manage their exposure to air pollution in different micro-environments. Thanks for the HSBC 150th Anniversary Charity Program, the PRAISE-HK system has already achieved three major release milestones for the mobile app.

PPOL holds Asia-Pacific Conference on Innovation and Entrepreneurship Ecosystems
|
The Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU) and the Division of Public Policy (PPOL) at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) hosted the Asia-Pacific Conference on Innovation and Entrepreneurship Ecosystems (APCIEE) on 6-7 December 2021. The conference invited 31 experts from all over the world to share their experiences in creation of successful innovation hubs with over 180 attendees (in-person and online), which helps cultivate an innovation network of Hong Kong with aligned interests.
